Gen Con 2016

Me: “Hey kids, what has been your favorite part of Gen Con today? Playtesting the games that haven’t been published yet? Staying in the fancy hotel? All the costumes? All our cool crafting projects?”

Little Miss Thing, age 6: “Riding the escalators.”

Danger Monkey, age 9: “Escalators.”

Me: “The… escalators?”

LMT: “Yes.”

DM: “Definitely the escalators.”

Me: “Those are very expensive escalator rides, I guess.”

LMT: “No, they’re free. I can do it all day.”

Goggles The Mind

Wonderful Wife: “How were your new goggles at the pool today?”

Danger Monkey, age 9: “They were great! Really cleared up my vision for close combat.”

Me: “Really.”

DM: “But it’s hard to swing a sword in the water, so blades will only do half damage.” (runs off)

WW: “He was at camp, right? Not the Crusades or something?”

Me: “We may be raising a gamer.”

WW: “Oh, you think?”

There is Time

Me: “If we budget for it, could we do Europe next summer?”

Wonderful Wife: “I’d love to do Europe!”

Danger Monkey, age 9: “No, we can’t go to Europe.”

Me: “Why is that?”

DM: “I haven’t learned Old Norse yet.”

(pause)

Me: “I love you, little viking dude.”
