Viking Wings

Most people don’t know that Vikings invented chicken wings. Early writings indicate they tasted better when the chickens were “pillaged locally.”

Egging Him On

Danger Monkey, age 10: “Dad, why did the Easter Bunny leave the Easter eggs?”

Me: “Actually, it’s an interesting history. Easter originated as a pagan holiday that was appropriated from ancient worship of Oester, goddess of fertility. Her symbols included rabbits and eggs, which has morphed into the odd concept we know today as the Easter Bunny.”

DM: “Nope. The correct answer is because the Easter Chicken was too chicken.”

Me: …

Me: “Oh, so you were making a joke.”

DM: “Yeah, and you were WAY OFF.”

A Viking Cooks: Easy Chicken

Roasted a chicken today in the slow cooker. Chopped up an onion, enough to cover bottom of slow cooker. Set the chicken on onions. Shake on just a little bit of salt, pepper, garlic powder, rosemary, thyme, oregano, cumin, and mustard powder. Then cover with a layer of paprika. Cook on low for 8 hours and it’s perfect. So much juice it’s hard to believe I didn’t add any liquid. SO EASY! Literally just falls off the bones.
