Due to unparalleled awesomeness, My Oldest Girl is being released from the hospital in about an hour. The original estimate was Tuesday, maybe Monday if things went well. Instead, here we are Friday afternoon — at 72 hours after open heart surgery — and her doctor says, “I don’t see any reason for you to be here at this point.” Actual quote. What a relief.
As a proud geeky Dad, I am now going to start calling her “Wolverine.” Or maybe Deadpool.
If you’ve ever wondered, when it came down to it, would you step into their place to keep your child from being in pain? Would you let them cut you open instead of her? The answer is yes. Without hesitation. In a blink of an eye. Yes. Please, yes.
But that’s not how life works. And it sucks.
But she’s amazing and I am just incredibly impressed. Such a brave, amazing, strong young woman.
My Oldest Girl is doing great. They say she’s the star of the day because she is bouncing back incredibly fast with so little complications. Currently adjusting pain meds to avoid the highs and lows but not totally knock her out.
