Dressing Up

(dinner at restaurant)

Me: “OK, time to head back to the hotel.”

(stands up)

Little Boy, next table, age maybe 5: (loudly) “See! I told you he was wearing a dress! See! See!”

Parents: (eyes wide) “Uh…”

Me: “It’s a kilt. They’re very comfortable. You should try one.”

TB: “Cool.”

Parents: (eyes wide) “Uh…”

Stay Calm and Ask Mom

(setting up workstation)

Me: “Oh, CRAP.”

Wonderful Wife: “What’s wrong dear?”

Me: “CRAP CRAP CRAP CRAP CRAP”

WW: “Is there a problem?”

Me: “I have to setup my work PC so I can work from here but I can’t connect to wi-fi and my laptop isn’t’ connecting because wi-fi says Limited and I have to figure this out or I’ll have to drive home or something but the wi-fi is too weak so maybe I’ll setup on the back porch or maybe I have to go find a Starbucks but that really messes up my plans and this is just not working out and I think I’m going to lose my…”

WW: “OR… use the hard wired internet connection right here with this LAN cable hanging out of it.”

Me: (slow blink)

Me: “That could work.”

Anger Issues

(at restaurant with My Oldest, age 15)

(family of four gets seated next to us)

Tiny girl, maybe 3: “I don’t want to sit here.”

Mom: “What’s wrong dear?”

(tiny girl runs around table to her dad)

TG: “That big man is angry! Why does he look so angry?”

Dad: “He’s not angry, honey.”

(I wave at her and smile)

TG: (suspicious stare)

TG: “OK.”

(walks back to her seat, eyeing me warily)

Oldest: (stifling laughter, tears in eyes) “I suddenly need to text all my friends. No reason.”
