Danger Monkey has a little piece of crumpled notebook paper, on which his friend copied all the stats of a Pokemon card. He has read us all the stats, powers and effects, repeatedly, with breathless joy, 12 times.
This is the first I’ve ever heard him acknowledge Pokemon, but I think it’s time to buy him a starter deck.
Wonderful Wife: “Hey kiddo, how is life?”
LMT, age 3: “What does that mean?”
WW: “By “Life” I mean how we live our lives. Going to school, learning, coming home, playing, eating, taking a bath. All that stuff that we do every day is Life.”
(pause)
LMT: “I like cookies.”
WW: “Close enough.”
She turned 12 last week.
She rode here in the front seat of my car, no longer relegated to the back seat.
And for the first time ever on visiting Half Price Books, she did not visit the children’s section.
Am I tearing up out of joy or sadness?
